Nicole + Damien, the Wedding of Champions in Queens, NY

In the spirit of updates, I am posting my images from one of the most inspirational couples from Brooklyn. Nicole & Damien were contestants on the Biggest Loser: Couples. Through their dedication to lead healthier lives and good old fashioned hard work they lost a combined weight of over 250lbs.Â Nicole showed off her sexy, slender figure in a mermaid silhouette wedding dress. I worked with Parris Whittingham on this wedding.

Mermaid silhouette- Just exercising my new wedding vocabulary. Since I began my business, I have immersed myself in all things weddings. What began as “research” turned into one of my guilty pleasures: Say Yes to the Dress. My mini confession today is that to my roommate’s horror, I figured out how to dvr it to watch multiple episodes consecutively.

Meghana & Jacob, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens Wedding with a chuppah and a mandap

meghana and jacob were married at the brooklyn botanical gardens with an interfaith ceremony that was led by both a rabbi and priest. i was breathless watching these two extraordinary cultures unite.

Dina & Josh, a Long Island Wedding

for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part.

marriageÂ takes a lot of love. so much love that you are willing toÂ share andÂ compromise and to forgive and understand someone besides yourself. which is the reason i have so much respect for anyone who commits their lives together as a holy bond with the blessings of God. He is our greatest example of love.

next month, my parents celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. 25 years of love. 25 years of togetherness. 25 years of strength.

through my job,Â in the month of june alone, iÂ wasÂ blessed to witnessÂ a jehovah’s witness, an othordox jewish, a few catholic ceremonies, and an interfaith jewish & hindu ceremony. so amazing. below are my faves from dina & josh’s wedding that i shot with jennifer davis.

work smarter, not harder…

just one of the many wise thoughts from my new friend, photographer/artist parris whittingham.Â parris, your honesty is like no other. thank you.

i assisted him this past weekend shooting the wedding of devin and kevin, a faithful couple who made their commitment to each other in new haven, ct with the blessing of the Lord. the day unexpectedly hit me. from the pastor’s candid real deal relationship talk, the beautiful praise dance performance to “behold the lamb of God,” devin honoring her young daughter for her unconditional love and support, to finally, at the end of the night, while they graciously drove us to the train station, i heard devin tenderly say to kevin “you’re our hero.” so loving, a similar sentiment i have for my father.

they danced their first dance to stevie’s “ribbon in the sky.” which happens to be the same wedding song of my godparents! even more ironic, i must have been a baby at the time they were married, maybe i wasn’t even born yet. i am not quite sure. but years ago, when i was a kid, the song was on the radio, and my parents casually mentioned that it was their wedding song. i never forgot. uncle hal passed years ago. so hearing the song floods me with vivid memories of his home, his laugh, his patience, and the way he bought cases of girl scout cookies from me, his personal cookie pusher, just so i could win the bigger prizes for selling the most. i hope he didn’t eat them all alone.

to sum it all up, familiar love manifested in so many ways throughout the day.

just call me stalker photographer.

wait j/k…Â i don’t want toÂ scare away the photographers i admire. i promise i’m not crazy or anything.Â with my production background, i get kicks out of characterizing myself as resourceful. but really, it’s nuts what and who you can find on google these days.

in the past few weeks, i have had the pleasure and enjoyment of meeting and talking with a few different wedding photographers, whoÂ have an astounding amount ofÂ wisdom and insight to share. i amÂ flabbergasted (that’s my favorite word. i will throw it in wherever and whenever i can. i think it just sounds funny. but i digress)Â at the generosity and time the photogs i did meet have shared with me. i cannot thank each of them enough.

one of those photogs is jacob pritchard. he allowed me to come along with him toÂ sam and leah’sÂ wedding as an assistant/second shooter at steiner studios in bk.Â the best part of working with jacob was the feedback and constructive criticism he gave me on the images i shot. invaluable, i tell you!Â i honestly am way too excited to apply his advice and tips on the next wedding i get to shoot. click here for jacob’s website.

i’m a blogger photographer

this is my first blog. i never thought i was the blogger type but look at me now! im still not the blogger type. but im a big believer in the saying “speak it, believe it, achieve it” and to have “faith the size of a mustard seed.” what better way or more public form i thought to speak out loud about what i want. i also recently began my website. www.amberknowles.com. although, i have to say with my substandard web designing capabilities it needs a lot more work. i also went back and forth trying to decide which blog hosting site to use. in the end, i chose wordpress. most experts in my google search led me to believe that wordpress would be much more worth my while, once i get the hang of it. and now i wait to get the hang of it. basically, im starting off this blog by speaking about what i will do.

i will be one of the best wedding photographers.

and somewhere along the way, i will begin to believe it.

this is my journey to achieve it.

why weddings?
because im a romantic.
because i tear during the father/daughter dances.
and because shooting happy people makes me happy.

my goal for this month is to carry my camera everyday on manual.
